Through research we gained alot of information about codes and conventions about different genres of music rock and funk are the genrs we decided to discuss as they are the most relavent to out music video.
ROCK:
We found that a agreed convention of rock was that it was more performanced based rather than a narrative one.We also found that shot compostions were also similar for instance in most rock videos there a close ups of the instruments the members are playing.we also found that most rock videos have very flashy lights they may tie in sink with the lead singer who the camera time would be most spent on singing rhythm.Lighting may also seem dominant in rock videos as they can portray the image a band is going for e.g a darker lighting could be used for the darker side of rock for bands such as metallica.

The video itself may just consist of medium and long shots of the band performing at the start of the video.
FUNK
Funk is similar to the rock genre in the sense that its not realy narrative based but more of a performance side of genre when concerning music videos.Lighting and general colour scemes of the funk genre tend to be much more bright and colourfull rather than dark.Tempo wise of the cutting rhythm can vary from a laid back pace if not an up tempo feel to it. In terms of shot composition it seems that funk shares the same with rock genres as it tends to be just the front man of the band in most of the frame of the shot with remainder band members there. The biggest difference is that funk tends to be filmed as a live performance rather than just a music video specific for that song.
